The History of Fairview
Fairview United Methodist Church was established May 7th, 1878. During the early years the church was served by circuit rider Reverend Van Buren Tate. Reverend Tate was licensed to preach in 1867 and served as a circuit rider to Fairview for seven years. Reverend Tate's son, John Mann Tate, died May 11, 1887, at age 18 and is buried in Fairview's cemetery. The first building was a two story building. The second floor was used as a Mason Hall. About fifty years later the building was destroyed by a tornado. The men of the congregation rebuilt the church as a one story building. At different times through the years the church has been closed, but always reopened later. It was disbanded in the early seventies, then reopened in 1976 by Louis Knight. The church was served by lay speakers until 1980 when Reverend John McCormack came to be the pastor and put Fairview back in the annual conference. During the 1980's the church was remodeled inside and the rooms built on the back. In 2004 a well was dug and two restrooms and kitchen facilities were added. Currently we are a congregation of about fifty people who worship, study, and celebrate our Lord regularly. Come join us!
